- Sitting on a panel chaired by Moses Wetangula, Penina Maronza is the Cabinet’s candidate for Tourism and Wildlife.

- Her performance failed to impress many Kenyans on social media. They suggested that Maronza would not perform well in the ministry if approved.
On Wednesday 19 October, Tourism Minister Candidate Penina Maronza appeared before the National Assembly’s Appointment Committee to be scrutinized.
She said in opening remarks to a committee headed by Moses Wetang’ula that she was worth 300 million KSh.
The Tourism CS candidate faced tough questions, from her property to how she plans to revive the country’s tourism sector.
At one point, Kimani Ichungwa, the majority leader of the National Assembly, questioned how he determined the value of the land he expected to sell in 2026 at KSh 50 million.

In her response, she argued that the amount was a personal estimate due to her experience in the land business.
“I’ve invested all my time in land, so I have a little land. This is a personal confession I predicted after being in business for a while.” Maronza answered Ichung’wah.
However, her way of answering questions made some Kenyans question whether she was suitable for the job at hand.
Those who commented on her response said they lacked a clear understanding of the issues affecting the ministry for which she was named secretary.

Over the years, the former Malindi parliamentarian appeared to have learned some vocabulary that she practiced during a scrutiny before the parliamentary appointments committee on Tuesday, Oct. 18, according to Kipkorir.
“To tell the truth, Aisha Jamwa has established herself. A few years ago she couldn’t form words in English. Today she speaks basic English yet eloquently and I learned words such as “a dignified silence.” Many have had the opportunity. She never went back on scholarship. Aisha does,” Kipkorir said.
