It’s time to review the Amex Centurion lounge at my home airport. I haven’t reviewed this lounge in nearly ten years. How about the Amex Centurion Lounge Miami? Let’s see…
AMEX Centurion Lounge Miami location and opening hours
The Amex Centurion Lounge Miami (MIA) is located in Concourse D, where most American Airlines flights depart. Concourse D and Concourse E are connected airside, so you can easily access the lounges when departing from either area’s gate. However, if you are departing from a different terminal, you will need to clear security twice to access this lounge.
The Centurion Lounge Miami is located near Gate D12. After clearing security at most checkpoints, turn right and continue walking along the main part of the concourse.
You will see a sign for the Centurion Lounge.
You will eventually reach the rotunda and on your left you will see the elevator leading to the Centurion Lounge. The lounge is located two floors above him on the main concourse.
As you ascend to the Centurion Lounge level, you will see a hallway leading to reception on your right. I had to show my Amex card, ID and boarding pass there.
The Amex Centurion Lounge Miami is now open daily from 5am to 10pm, covering most departures from the terminal.
AMEX Centurion Lounge Miami Admission Requirements
This lounge is subject to the same access policies as all Amex Centurion lounges. The Amex Centurion Lounge can be used by holders of any of the following cards
There are some conditions to be aware of regarding access to the Amex Centurion Lounge.
- A same-day boarding pass is required to access the Centurion Lounge. If you are a Delta Reserve Cardmember, your boarding pass must be for travel on Delta.
- You can access the Centurion Lounge up to 3 hours before departure.
- Centurion Lounge access is not available on arrival or with Standby or Non-Revenue Standby tickets.
- If you invite guests to the Centurion Lounge, they must be with you the entire time they are in the lounge
Please note that as of February 2023, Amex is making significant changes to their Centurion Lounge guest policies. It is hoped that this will solve the congestion problem.
Amex Centurion Lounge Miami seating and layout
At just over 12,000 square feet, the Amex Centurion Lounge Miami is about average for the size of a Centurion lounge. So what is the lounge layout like? After passing the reception and entering the main part of the lounge, you can turn left or right. Start at the far right of the lounge and work your way left from there.
At one end of the lounge is the main dining area and bar, consisting of many café-style tables and elevated seating at the bar. There is a departure monitor here in case you want to track your flight status.
Past it is a small sitting area just by the entrance. This is the lounge’s busiest area as everyone passes by.
The lounge is a little smaller, with a row of seats by the window and plenty of tables.
Beyond is a business center with collaborative workstations, desktops, and several printers.
Past that is more café-style seating along with a wine bar. In general, the farther you go in this direction of the lounge, the quieter it gets. This is because the main his bar and dining is on the opposite side of the lounge (which tends to act as a magnet).
At the back of the lounge is one final room, the largest space in the lounge. This is the main space added when the Centurion Lounge was expanded a few years ago.
Overall, the lounge is nicely decorated and feels a little more upmarket than the typical US domestic airport lounge. The plane spot is great. It was dark when I visited early in the morning and there was condensation on the windows, so I couldn’t get a good picture of the plane.
Also, we visited shortly after the lounge opened at 5am, so crowds weren’t an issue. However, the Centurion Lounge is known to have congestion issues. We hope that future changes to our guest policy will change that.
Food & Drink at Amex Centurion Lounge Miami
The Centurion Lounge is known for its excellent food and beverages, especially compared to what is typically found in other lounges in the United States. The Centurion Lounge has partnered with chef Michelle Bernstein, mixologist Jim his Meehan, and sommelier Anthony his Giglio.
The lounge serves continental breakfast from 5 AM to 6 AM, hot breakfast from 6 AM to 11:30 AM, and lunch and dinner from 11:30 AM to 9 PM. A sample menu for the Centurion Lounge Miami is shown below, with selections rotating.
Visited the lounge when the continental breakfast was being served (unfortunately we had to leave before the full hot breakfast was served at 6am).
The continental breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, and some pastries.
As for drinks, there were containers with drip coffee, various teas, lattes, cappuccinos, and an espresso machine. Soft drinks are available at the bar.
Below is the Centurion Lounge Miami wine menu (available 8:00am to 8:30pm).
Below you will find Centurion Lounge Miami’s cocktail menu (available from 10:30am to 9:30pm) and beer menu (available from 8am to 9:30pm).
There was a second buffet setup but it didn’t look like it was being used. Not sure if that’s always the case or if it’s only in the mornings when a continental breakfast is served.
Amex Centurion Lounge Miami Spa
The Centurion Lounge has a small spa just off the entrance. Travelers can book his 15-minute treatments on a first-come, first-served basis. Treatments include chair massages and nail care. During my visit the spa was still not open that day.
As you can imagine, the spa can only accommodate a few people at a time, but the lounge has many visitors. So think of booking availability more like a lottery than anything else.
Amex Centurion Lounge Miami Phone Room
The Amex Centurion Lounge Miami has several telephone booths near the wine bar, basically private rooms where you can sit. If you’re looking for a quiet place to hang out or make a phone call, check it out. if these are available.
Amex Centurion Lounge Miami Family Room
Centurion Lounge Miami has a family room near the entrance and by the main buffet, with a TV and a variety of toys for children. We are confident that this space will delight parents and non-parents alike. 😉
Amex Centurion Lounge Miami bathroom and shower
The Centurion Lounge has two separate bathrooms. One bathroom has 1 stall and 2 urinals and the other bathroom has 2 stalls and 1 urinal.
The Centurion Lounge also has shower suites, but whether they actually work is another matter. I asked about the possibility of showering at 5:30am and was told the next available appointment was at 8:30am. Considering most people only have access to the Centurion Lounge until 3 hours before departure, it’s pretty restrictive…
Conclusion
The Amex Centurion Lounge Miami is nicely decorated, reasonably sized, and offers great views of the apron and runway. The lounge has plenty of food and drinks.
Historically, I avoided this lounge simply because it was crowded and visited the American Admirals Club instead. Luckily there were no issues during our 5am visit. In addition, we hope that the Centurion Lounge guest policy changes will ease congestion.
The guest policy changed during this visit and we didn’t experience any congestion issues, so we’ll probably check the lounge out again next time we leave Miami.
If you’ve visited Centurion Lounge Miami, what was your experience like?
