On Wednesday, November 16th, the Selbyville Public Library will host a Court Giveaway event designed for the whole family to enjoy. The library has partnered with Operation Warm to give away over 100 of his winter coats between 3pm and 6pm that day. The perfect cold-weather coat is from Operation Warm.
The coats are brand new and come in a variety of children’s sizes, ready for the family to pick up for the night. There are also snacks, free books for the kids to take home, and live music.
The Selbyville Public Library welcomes new Youth Services Coordinator Haley Gray as her usher in several new programs designed to excite children and teens as they continue to focus on the youth of the community. . Gray said he was enthusiastic about joining the staff of the Selbyville Public Library after completing his studies in anthropology and sociology with a focus on children’s literature.
“I first encountered children’s literature during my university studies. Working with children in these formats increased my love for children’s literature.”
Gray spearheads a variety of programs to connect with children of all ages. These include Cool Her Career Stories Her Time, where community members such as police officers participate and read aloud to preschoolers, and Crafter Noon for older elementary and middle school students. Teenage holiday themed event. She focuses on and puts together youth programming that is fun, educational and definitely of interest to children and teens.
This all coincides with a new initiative at the library for after-school snacks. The ‘Snack Spot’, now in the Teen Room, is a place where children can have an after-school snack at will. The new program is sponsored by organizations and businesses, each filling a snack spot for her week. The first week is sponsored by the Salem United Methodist Church, a longtime partner of the Selbyville Public Library, and the second by her Playful Prep Meals.
Librarian Director Kelly Klein said he knows how much the community loves participating in these programs, and those interested in sponsoring Snack Time should contact the library. Those who decide to do so should know that the library accepts whole fruit and shelf-stable, individually wrapped foods.
