Ten new start-ups begin their entrepreneurial journey with Crucible, De Montfort University Leicester’s (DMU) award-winning business incubator.
Crucible engages final-year students, graduates, and alumni in a 12-month program to develop business ideas, support them in product development and market testing, help build networks, and collaborate with local business organizations. doing.
Receive weekly one-on-one mentorship and support, and monthly workshops and masterclasses on finance, business growth, customer development, branding, copywriting, and more with leading industry experts, Personalized sessions are available for more in-depth work. .
With a record 29 entries this year, the 10 startups selected are developing innovative ideas in industries such as fashion, photography, crafts and consumer tech. For the first time, his DMU staff who have a business idea or already have a part-time business can also attend monthly masterclasses for support.
Crucible is run by Percy Emmett, Senior Corporate Lecturer and Director of the MBA Program in DMU’s School of Business Law. he said:
“Our philosophy at Crucible is not just to focus on business ideas, but on building the resilience and confidence of emerging entrepreneurs, expanding their business networks and developing their skill sets. They are all passionate about their business idea and I look forward to seeing them take off.”
About 85% of the businesses launched through Crucible in the last five years are still in business.
New businesses launching in the Crucible include:
• Snowball is a community app founded by DMU alumni Simon Sansome.Assessing disability access in the UK and around the world
• Little Legends Club, founded by Bianca Malloy, a children’s clothing company whose children are designers
• Noelle, created by Eliza McCann, manufactures sustainable and ethical loungewear.
• Belinda King Glass, glassware design by DMU alumnus and former artist-in-residence Belinda King
• Stone Visuals, run by DMU alum Matt Stone, who specializes in sports photography.
• Matkewalli, a ceramics design company run by former DMU artist-in-residence and Design Crafts alum Parneet Pahwa.
• Venus Rose, a lingerie company run by lingerie designer Rose James, targets shapely women.
• ID8 Illuminate, run by DMU alumni Marie Moyles, creates sculptural lighting designs.
• Bindi Red, an ethical heritage jewelry series by designer Pratibha Jevan.
• Disha Lulla Design (DMU alumna Disha’s bridalwear design company)
The newest Crucible community started with a three-day bootcamp. There they all had the chance to meet each other and learn about their businesses and programs.
Eliza McCann founded Noelle, an ethical clothing company, passionate about sustainability and transparency. “I am looking forward to being part of the Crucible,” she said.
