news release
After the COVID-19 pandemic limited what the Danville Schools Education Foundation and Alumni Association could do, the organization once again found a foothold and continued to provide teacher grants, aiming to expand its board and opportunities for students. I’m here.
Secretary Gail Wright said the organization’s purpose is to support and enhance student opportunities in three main areas: arts, STEM, technology, and enriching opportunities for field trips and other activities. explained. The organization also provides scholarships to her junior year at Danville High School.
Robertson said some events the organization has worked on in the past include dancing with the annual Danville Stars event, which consists of pairs dancing together representing each school. The money raised was sent to schools and organizations, donated to the DSEFAA Scholarship Fund and other projects.
Some other projects DSEFAA has contributed to in the past include the Heritage Area Strings Program, sponsoring second grade swimming lessons at the McDowell Wellness Center, and several field trips and strength programs for different grade levels.
Wright and Treasurer Loudetta Robertson outlined some of the things the organization is working on right now and what the community can do to help.
Grants for Educators
Each year DSEFAA offers grant opportunities to educators within the Danville Independent School District. Grant applications for 2022-2023 are now being accepted. The deadline is noon on Monday, January 16th. Information on how to apply is available at givenanville.org/grant-opportunities.
One of these grants, Wright says, was one of her standout projects: One year, a special education teacher at John W. Bate Middle School built a small kitchen to help students learn life skills. I received a subsidy for supplies. She said much of the Edna L. Tolliver Secondary School technology, such as cameras and other equipment, was also provided through grants.
donation
DSEFAA is always accepting donations. For information on how to donate, please visit giveanville.org/give.
Robertson said it’s important for the community to support students so they can go on excursions and have other opportunities.
“Some of these kids probably won’t be able to leave Danville if we don’t provide travel, or if someone doesn’t provide travel,” she said.
“This is how people donate money for very vetted and carefully considered opportunities for children,” Wright said.
become an officer
DSEFAA is currently considering expanding its board. If you are interested in Danville Schools and are interested in making our district more successful and enriching our students, please apply. With one exception, her current DISD staff can be Board members but cannot act as voting members. However, retired staff members may act as voting members.
Expanding the DSEFAA Alumni Database
DSEFAA is working to revitalize the alumni database. If you have graduated from DISD, you can update your information at givenanville.org/alumni-update.
