When shopping for the best laptop, it’s important to get one with the best possible display. , you may find it difficult to perform your work. Many of the laptops we reviewed in 2022 have great displays suitable for a variety of activities. But in our testing, he definitely had one machine stand out among the others. It’s a MacBook Air M2.
How did you come to this conclusion? We use an in-house luminometer and colorimeter to measure the average brightness and color quality of each laptop’s display. Brightness is measured in nits, and color accuracy is determined by sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamut percentages. Delta-E values are also useful in determining color accuracy. The higher the nits, the brighter the screen, but a percentage close to 100% works best for sRGB and DCI-P3. For Delta-E, closer to 0 is better.
So how well did the MacBook Air M2 perform in our display tests? Apple’s ultra-thin laptop averaged 489 nits of brightness, peaking at 495 nits with HDR content. In terms of color reproduction and accuracy, things looked about the same, with the Air M2’s display registering 107% of the sRGB color gamut and 75.9% of the more demanding DCI-P3 color space. Air’s Delta-E accuracy score of 0.2 is also excellent
The MacBook Air M2 may not score or average better in individual tests when compared to other laptops. But overall, it has the best display of 2022 based on our testing.

MacBook Air M2 display: which laptop comes close to it?
The MacBook Air M2 has a bright and colorful display, but other laptops have equally good screens. This included his 13-inch MacBook Pro, which averaged 474 nits of brightness and peaked at 490 nits with HDR content. The sRGB (109.4%), DCI-P3 (77.5%), and Delta-E (0.3) ratings are also close to the MacBook Air.
Moving on to non-Apple laptops, the runners-up are the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2022) and the Acer Swift 5. Zephyrus achieved an average brightness of 473 nits, 104.5% of the sRGB color gamut, and 74% of the color gamut. The Delta-E score was 0.23 in the DCI-P3 color space.
Swift 5 has an average brightness of 457 nits. The laptop achieved 131.7% in the sRGB color gamut and 93.3% in the DCI-P3 color space. That’s pretty good for a non-OLED display. The following laptop displays aren’t as bright as the MacBook Air M2, but they have decent color quality. This includes the Dell XPS 13 Plus, Dell XPS 15 OLED and Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360. You can see the scores and values for each in the graph above, but suffice it to say that these machines give a solid picture. At the level of the entire MacBook Air.
MacBook Air M2: Best display in 2022?
As you can see above, the MacBook Air M2 has the best display of the year based on our testing methods. However, this doesn’t mean that other laptops we’ve reviewed have inferior panels.
The numbers provide a solid baseline for comparing consumer technologies, but they don’t tell the whole story. In other words, personal preferences cannot be explained in numbers. Even if the MacBook Air M2’s screen is brighter, some find his 3.5K on the Dell XPS 15 OLED more eye-catching, for example.
That said, if you’re looking for a laptop with an all-around solid display, the MacBook Air M2 is the best notebook right now. Considering its sleek and portable design, it’s also one of the best MacBooks money can buy.
